Claire Pickess - Business Support Manager

How long have you worked at Global Brands?

25 years

What is your role at Global Brands and what does it entail?

I am the Business Support Manager at Global Brands, leading a team of four within our back-office administration department. Our team plays a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the company. We handle a wide range of tasks, our work is varied and fast-paced, and we pride ourselves on providing efficient, reliable support to ensure the business runs smoothly behind the scenes.

How did you get into it?

I joined the company 25 years ago, at a time when there were no formal departments—everyone pitched in wherever needed. As the company quickly grew, I transitioned into a more defined role as PA to Mark James, who was our Sales Director at the time. I remained in that role for 12 years.

After returning from maternity leave following the birth of my second child, I moved into a more operational role within Sales, reporting to Julian Atkins. At the time, our team was just two people. As the company expanded, my responsibilities also grew, and I found myself increasingly involved in supporting other parts of the business beyond Sales.  This broader involvement led to the evolution of my role, and my department was restructured from Sales Support to Business Support. I was promoted to Business Support Manager and now lead a team of four, supporting a wide range of functions across the business.

What’s the best project you’ve worked on and why?

I have worked on lots over the years, but I would say organising the Christmas parties have been the best as they have been so varied, also weekends in Spain, marquees at Steves house, and various hotels until we owned our own.

What do you like the most about working at Global Brands?

Its sounds really corny but having worked at the company for so long I look at it as my second family and so proud of how far we have come.

What’s your favourite GB product and why?

VK Ice, I just love a cold one on a hot summers day.

And just to be nosy, what’s your favourite packet of crisps?

Salt & Vinegar.

What one piece of advice would you give to someone thinking about a career in the drinks industry?

Do it, you will love it!
